Feb. 2 - The Black Rock Branch Library Movies Series - Black History Month Celebration RFK in the Land of Apartheid : A Ripple of Hope Kickoff Event – 6:30pm RFK in the Land of Apartheid: A Ripple of Hope explores the impact of Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s visit to South Africa in 1966 during the worst years of Apartheid. This penetrating documentary makes connections between the Anti-Apartheid struggle in South Africa and the American Civil Rights Movement. Feb. 17 - Student Leader Program Bank of America would like you to help us get out the message out to Bridgeport , Stamford and Norwalk area high school juniors and seniors about Bank of America’s Student Leader Program as it is truly a great program for high school students. The timeline for these applications for student leaders is from January 1st to February 17th. I am asking you to please tell any high school juniors or seniors that attend a Bridgeport , Stamford and/or Norwalk area high school or live in the Bridgeport , Stamford and Norwalk area to consider applying to this program. This program recognizes these students as exemplary young people who have an interest in improving their neighborhoods. In addition, each student will have an opportunity to attend a leadership seminar in Washington , D.C. in July of 2010 with other student leaders from throughout the country. To further their personal and educational growth, students will participate in an eight-week paid internship in the summer of 2010 with a nonprofit organization in Fairfield County and be compensated accordingly. The program has had great success over the past few years in the Fairfield County community and all of the interns have enjoyed their experiences working with their nonprofits.
