Syracuse University Scholarships Syracuse University has 10 Full Rides for African American Men and Women Interested in Studying Architecture. Mark Robbins, Dean of Syracuse University's School of Architecture is desperately seeking young men and women of color interested in pursuing a five year professional degree in Architecture. He says he's deeply committed to bringing diversity to his field and has scholarship money set aside to fully cover education costs for 10 students. He says that Hispanic enrollment in the school has increased substantially, but it's been harder to attract Blacks. Bill Cosby Screenwriting Program This program was established by Drs. Bill and Camille Cosby at the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television. Unaffiliated with USC, the Hanks-Miller Program is geared toward increasing the pool of qualified African-American writers in the entertainment industry. The program has single-handedly brought more successful African-American writers into the entertainment industry than any other program of its type. Our program is not designed for beginning level writers. We are seeking writers who have taken the initiative to formally study television or feature writing through workshops or classes; a degree is not necessary. In an industry that is extremely competitive, we have found our greatest success in assisting those who have a strong foundation in television or screen writing. Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest Applicants must select one of three topics to write about regarding Atlas Shrugged - a fiction novel by Ayn Rand. Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning of Atlas Shrugged. NFAA’s Young ARTS Scholarship Program We’re looking for talented young artists in all disciplines of the performing, literary, and visual arts. NFAA’s youngARTS program is dedicated to nurturing and supporting high school senior–aged artists at this critical point in their professional development. For more than 25 years, we’ve sought out the best young artists and provided support in a variety of ways. Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world. International experience is critically important in the educational and career development of American students, but it can also require a substantial financial investment. The Gilman Scholarship Program broadens the student population that studies abroad by supporting undergraduates who might not otherwise participate due to financial constraints. The program aims to encourage students to choose non-traditional study abroad destinations, especially those outside of Western Europe and Australia. The Gilman scholarship aims to support students who have been traditionally under-represented in study abroad, including but not limited to, students with high financial need, community college students, students in under-represented fields such as the sciences and engineering, students with diverse ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities. The program seeks to assist students from a diverse range and type of public and private institutions from all 50 states. Award recipients are chosen by a competitive selection process and must use the award to defray eligible study abroad costs. Future Engineers Scholarship Program One winner will receive a scholarship to be used toward eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board during the 2009 calendar year. Candidates must be full-time students at the time of application submittal, pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States during the 2008 calendar year, and be accepted into the School of Engineering. Scholarships will not be awarded to Freshman, or Seniors who will be graduating on or before June 2008. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale (or 3.5 on a 4.5 scale, and so forth). Beacon Partners Healthcare IT Scholarship This program, established to advance the field of Healthcare Information Technology, is awarded to a student pursuing a degree (Undergraduate, Masters or Ph.D) in the IT Healthcare field. National Achievement Scholarship Program The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and meeting other published requirements for participation. The two annual programs are conducted concurrently but operated and funded separately. A student's standing is determined independently in each program. Black American students can qualify for recognition and be honored as Scholars in both the National Merit Program and the National Achievement Program, but can receive only one monetary award from NMSC. National SMART Grant The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant, also known as the National Smart Grant is available during the third and fourth years of undergraduate study to full-time students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant and who are majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, or engineering or in a foreign language determined critical to national security. The student must also be enrolled in the courses necessary to complete the degree program and to fulfill the requirements of the intended eligible major in addition to maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in coursework required for the major. The Charles Shafae' Scholarship Fund The Charles Shafae' Scholarship Fund awards two $500 scholarships each year (one per long semester) to the winners of the Papercheck Essay Contest.
